The Mixed-Up (& Messy!) Thanksgiving Holiday: A Readers Theater Script

I remember a Thanksgiving when….

We all have those stories, don’t we? Like the time my daughter set the oven on fire, or when I spilled hot coffee on a guest, or the arguments that just might get started between dinner and dessert, with so many different relatives at the table!

In this Thanksgiving play, the kids get things turned upside down and just can’t seem to get the holiday right! Top that with a Thanksgiving accident, and it becomes a very memorable holiday indeed! Some characters might know more than they let on though; see which ones your students think are “in the know,” which ones are bluffing, and which ones are genuinely confused. Get them to talk about their own Thanksgiving family traditions as well, once you finish the play, and maybe even write their own Thanksgiving stories!

Try out this light-hearted Thanksgiving Readers Theater script with your grade 4 to 6 classes (with very brave 3rd grade classes and any willing 7th graders welcome to try it out as well!). A printable Play Title Card and all Character Cards are included to help you stage your production. (Simply print onto card stock, cut out, punch two holes — one at either end, and thread string or yarn through, tying at ends, for students to wear around their necks while reading or performing their play. Have fun, and Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
