Race to the Top: Fair to All States?
I certainly have some reservations about the "Race to the Top" contest, where only two states have been awarded federal funds. The terms, and the awards, seem rather skewed to me. What happens to states who lose out, but still need federal funding?

The "contest" approach only rewards specific criteria. And why were only two states recipients??
I like the comparison to the Olympics. Don't all states and all students deserve federal support?
In my state, we were having to give up the way we have been paid in order to receive these funds - merit pay and no more pay for degrees. While we were very close to winning, I'm glad we didn't. If we want federal monies, we must remember they will have control, and I'm not sure this is what we want...
It is interesting that this article was on the same page as an article about bullying. I feel bullied by the federal government and now my state in pursuing the Race to the Top.
How is this fair to ALL of our students when only a few states will receive federal money?
I thought the goal was to help all students not just those in a few state who are willing to bow to the demands of RTT
